Salem, Ore., October 25, 2018 — The City of Salem will celebrate the start of construction for their new Police Station with an official groundbreaking ceremony on the building site at 333 Division ST NE. The City invites the community to participate in the shovel ceremony that will take place on November 9, 2018 at 12:00 noon. Expected to be on hand will be City officials including Mayor Chuck Bennett, City Manager Steve Powers, City Councilors Tom Andersen, Matt Ausec, Chris Hoy, Cara Kaser, Jim Lewis, Steve McCoid, Brad Nanke, as well as Police Chief Jerry Moore.
“This groundbreaking ceremony is an exciting first step in the new legacy of the Salem Police Department and our service to the residents of Salem,” said Chief Moore. “This building will be a beacon of safety for our community for years to come.”
The new consolidated police station will unite all police units and departments under one roof in a safe, welcoming building for both staff and the public. The facility will be three stories in height and approximately 104,000 SF. It will house all police units including Evidence Storage, Crime Lab, all Emergency Response Vehicles, the City of Salem Emergency Operations Center, as well as community and department training spaces. Sustainability measures are being implemented. Site development includes an elevated parking deck for patrol cars and access to patrol functions, with over 200 secure parking stall and specialty parking spaces.
The building will send a welcoming message to the community with an accessible, inviting front plaza and community room, a transparent lobby and public face, and a secure and protective site and building design for day-to-day police operations. The interior will include historical and community themes woven into the workspaces and building spaces including a community room, lobby atrium and interactive displays.
The building site serves as a civic anchor for the north edge of downtown Salem. Through the partnership of CB Two Architects and DLR Group, the team provided selection assistance, architectural design, engineering, planning, interiors and building optimization services
