The Salem Police Foundation proudly awards the Jerry Moore Scholarship to eligible high school seniors pursuing post-secondary education. Established in honor of retired Chief Jerry Moore and his 44 years of service to Salem, this scholarship reflects our commitment to supporting the families and youth connected to the Salem Police Department.

2026–2027 Scholarship Season

  • Scholarship period: September 1 – June 30
  • Maximum award: $1,000 per applicant
  • Applications open on April 1 – Deadline April 30
  • Notification date: June 1, 2026
  • Funds are paid directly to the student’s college or university

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Be a high school senior accepted to a two- or four-year institution
  • Intend to pursue any field of study
  • Be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours)
  • Meet at least one of the following:
      • Child of an active, full-time, or retired Salem Police Department employee
      • Child of an active, full-time 911 call-center employee
      • Participant in the Salem Police Department Cadet Program
      • Youth participant in an SPD-supported program (confirmation letter required)

Scholarship Use & Terms

  • Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and related academic expenses
  • Payments are made directly to the accredited institution
  • Changes to enrollment or eligibility may affect the award amount

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will the scholarships be?
Awards are subject to the number of qualified applicants and will not exceed $1,000 per applicant.
A scholarship award may be renewable for the following academic years if the scholarship recipient demonstrates satisfactory academic performance in the preceding year of full-time study and satisfies any additional criteria established by the SPF.
Application submitted, high school transcript, 2 letters of reference and Resume.
How do I get the reference letter to you if I can’t upload it myself?
On your application, there is a space for you to enter the name and email address of your reference person.  Please share with your reference this link to upload their reference letter May 1st application year.
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their submission by June 1, 2025.
