Special Olympian Matt Goodman here carries the Special Olympics torch through downtown Salem Friday, July 13, escorted by a cadre of Salem Police officers.
The torch made its way 11 miles through Salem from Delaney Road to West Salem en route to Newberg for the July 14 opening of the Oregon Special Olympics.
Salem Police Chief Jerry Moore joined officers on part of the route. He said, “We run in support of the Special Olympics athletes who set an example for us all through their spirit of determination.”
The Salem Police Foundation supports the department’s community activities and thanks donors for providing financial backing for foundation activities.
