Play for a Cure Oregon raised more than $58,000 this month through its annual softball tournament in Salem. Salem Police Officer Kris Knox is the prime mover behind the event.
“Thank you so much for the support we received from the Salem Police Foundation this year,” Kris wrote. “We would never be able to make this event the success it is without the support of our sponsors and our community.
“Our goal is for the money we raise to serve the individuals in our community during one of the most challenging times in their lives by helping to prevent financial hardship from interfering with their ability to get well.”
Proceeds from the tournament go to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Salem Hospital Foundation and Salem YWCA Mammogram Screening Program. Half of the proceeds goes to Komen for research programs and the other half provides emergency financial aid for breast cancer patients.
