Even as the Salem Police Department Crime Prevention Unit offers tips for a safer holiday season, the Salem Police Foundation reminds city residents that they play a vital role in making our community secure.
In the last two years scores of these residents have helped build a training facility for Salem police dogs, supported elementary school outreach through the D.A.R.E. program and funded a high school fitness project for at-risk young men. All of these programs have been possible through gifts to the Salem Police Foundation.
The foundation joins nonprofits across the country in encouraging people to open the 2012 holiday season on a philanthropic note by pausing long enough on GivingTuesday (Nov. 27) to focus on giving, not receiving. Giving Tuesday is a brand-new idea that spotlights a day that follows directly on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The person who imagined GivingTuesday said, “We have two days that are good for the economy. Here is a new day that is good for the soul.”
The Salem Police Foundation gladly accepts gifts to help with 2013 projects, such as purchase of security kits for the Domestic Violence Resource Team, new replacement dogs for the K-9 unit and trauma kits for each of the Salem patrol cars.
