Several Pringle Elementary School students rode to school in the Salem Police SWAT vehicle last year. It was one of the prize items parents arranged for their children at the 2014 Breakfast with the Chief.
Rides-to-school and school visits by one of the police department’s K-9s are just a few of the special auction items available at the 2015 Breakfast coming Feb. 25 to Cascade Hall on the Oregon State Fairgrounds.
More than 300 people turned out for the event last year. Their gifts enabled the foundation to purchase sophisticated cameras for police investigations. Donors also made it possible for the foundation to support the D.A.R.E. program, purchase advanced trauma kits for officers to render first aid before medics arrive and provide ladders for officers and K-9s to access attics and other hard-to-reach spaces.
This year the foundation hopes donors will get behind a plan to equip K-9s with back-mounted video cameras so their handlers can see what they see while they are searching for suspects off leash.
Supporters will receive individually address invitations in late January, and they should register at http://tinyurl.com/pk9nkcp.
